International driving license from Automobile Association.

Congratulations for your new job first. Yes you can get an international driving license from Automobile Association. You can use it for few months (usually 3 months) before you get the license from the country you landed.
I also brought an International Driving license when I cam to Canada. But I never used it as rules and regulations are on the road here very sophisticated and well adhered. Here they have a graduated driving license system and it is really hard to get the driving license unless you do well at the written and road exams. having said that let me explain how you can get the international driving license from 

Sri lanka Automobile Association.

1. You have to visit one of their offices. Following are office addresses and phone numbers.

I am not sure whether Galle and Kandy offices issue international license. please call and ask them if you intend to go to one of these offices.

2. Following are required documents. Now that you have the phone number and e-mail please confirm with them before going.

(a)New driving license and its photocopies, If it is old driving license that you have you need to get it certified from department of motor traffic.
(b) Two photos of Pass port size
(c) Rs. 2290/= If you need it in 5 working days. For same day service, you have to pay Rs. 2695/=

3. They may ask you whether you need the membership of their association to which you have to pay extra Rs. 1880/=. This is not essential and you not anyway going to get the listed benefits as you are going to live away from the country. You can check the services that you are entitled to when you visit one of Ceylon Automobile offices.
